Here's what I've learned from practicing this work: The pattern isn't the problem. The pattern is trying to tell you something.

 

In Imago Relationship Therapy, we say that conflict is growth trying to happen. I know (really, I do) that might sound overly optimistic when you're in the thick of it. But what if the frustration you're feeling is actually pointing toward what needs to heal—not just between you, but within each of you?

 

I work with couples who are genuinely curious about this. Couples who want to understand why they keep ending up in the same place, who are willing to look at their own part in the dynamic, and who are ready to try something different—even when it feels awkward at first.

Hi,I'm Nichole

I've been a therapist for 24 years, and about a decade ago I found my real calling: helping couples break patterns that keep them stuck.

I practice Imago with my partner Scott—often imperfectly, sometimes clumsily—so I know firsthand how hard this work can be. I also know how worth it it is.

My favorite part? As couples move through this work, and they start to see and sense genuine shifts happening. I see it too. They're less reactive. More connected. And they know it's not a fluke. Something fundamental has changed between them, and it's sticking.

I'm certified in Imago Relationship Therapy and draw from neuroscience and mindfulness approaches. But mostly, I believe in small, sustainable changes—the kind that actually stick.

What to Expect When We Work Together

I'm not going to let you do here what you're already doing at home.

If certain patterns aren't working — the tone that escalates things, the shutdown that ends conversations, the same argument on repeat — we’re going to try something different. And we’ll practice it in session, until it starts to feel more natural. This isn’t about me sitting back while you struggle; it’s about actively helping you find a new way forward.

You'll get both the "why" and the "how."

Understanding what’s happening beneath your conflicts matters — why you react the way you do, what your nervous system is doing, what old stuff might be getting stirred up. But understanding alone doesn’t create change. You also need something concrete to do differently. My approach blends insight with practice, so you leave sessions with both awareness and action steps.

We're not here to solve the dishes argument.

We’re here to change how you argue. I’m less interested in the content of your conflicts (though we’ll certainly talk about them) and more interested in the patterns underneath — how you speak, how you listen, how you repair. When those shift, the specifics become much easier to navigate.

My approach is grounded in Imago Relationship Therapy 

Imago processes provide the foundational structure and safety for this work. I also draw from neuroscience, mindfulness, and other frameworks as they fit for each couple. What matters most is your willingness to be curious, to look at your own part in the dynamic, and to try something new — even when it feels awkward at first (because it almost certainly will).
